Second CIS Mining Forum to be held in Dagestan on 1-3 October

The Second International Forum “Sustainable Development of Mountain Territories” with the participation of leading researchers and experts, representatives of the authorities of the Commonwealth countries will be held in the Republic of Dagestan on 1-3 October 2025.

The event is initiated by the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.

In a letter sent to Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy, Head of the Republic of Dagestan Sergey Melikov expressed confidence that the forum would give an impetus to the socio-economic development of mountainous territories and strengthen the Republic’s interregional ties with the CIS countries.

The theme of the second mountain forum will be “The role of municipalities in making environmentally significant decisions in the sphere of sustainable development of mountain territories”. The aim is to propose mechanisms for local adaptation to climatic and socio-economic changes.

Experts will discuss improving the well-being of the population of mountainous areas, the development of a network of transboundary protected areas, ways to optimize subsoil use, the optimal balance between traditional and innovative industries, and the development of mountain tourism.

The forum will also consider the issues of municipal control over the state of the environment in the mountains, the balance between the reduction of forest cover of mountain landscapes and effective forest management, the development of mountain areas, taking into account the differences between economic growth and rational use of natural resources.

The forum is organized by the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS, the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Government of the Republic of Dagestan, and the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation.

Forum partners are the CIS Executive Committee, MGIMO of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Natalia Tornqvist’s Charitable Foundation “Revival of Nature”.
